The Power of 1: Recycling

The theme of the week for Living Edge and Woodhead’s Power of One campaign is recycling. Here are some inspired examples.

1.Alice Potter Jewellery

Alice Potter is an Adelaide based jeweller who uses a lot of repurposed materials to create her delightful pieces such as laminate samples and discarded plastic and magazine clippings.

2.Scraplights & Scrapchairs

Seattle based architects Graypants have created the stunning Scraplight series of pendnant lights from repurposed cardboard boxes and also a Scrapchair from recycled ply (with cardboard and magazine versions). Their philosophy is to explore the pure result of pillaging trash to create elegant, useful products.

Recycling Near You An Australia wide web resource by Planet Ark. Search by product or state/council area.

Zero Waste A city of Sydney iniative to send less garbage to landfill.

Australian Conservation Foundation for many articles and discussions on recycling.

Reverse Garbage A not-for-profit co-operative that sells industrial discards, off-cuts and over-runs to the public for creative and practical uses, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre Co-operative Ltd collects, (sometimes repairs) and resells goods diverted from the Sydney metropolitan municipal waste stream, whilst educating the community about waste reduction.
